The Ellington Kid
Best Scenes:
In my favourite shot (above) the lights are neon and the walls are white, the washed out colours make the Ellington kid stand out more + we can more clearly see the terror on his face. He is centrally framed to emphasise his expression and drawn our attention to him. The neon lights are symmetrical and further draw the viewers' eyes to the Ellington Kid.
The final shot is equally great - A pan is used (instead of a cut/fade to black) to the kebab shop owner sharpening his knives. This builds tension as it makes the audience left in suspense as they await the reaction of the kebab worker and his smug smile in combination with the tension building leaves the audience guessing as they are unsure if the finale is comedic or sinister.
Elements:
Acting: The acting performances are very good. The subtlety of the kebab shop owners expression changes and their non verbal performances communicate their emotions very well (e.g. changes in stance and body language). The Ellington kid performs the aftermath of his attack very well too, his helplessness + desperation + dying was very convincingly portrayed. The friends talking in the kebab shop involved very realistic dialogue that doesn't have any wasted words and does not end up seeming too cringey or outdated.
Soundtrack : The soundtrack is well-made, fits the tone, and fits into the film well. The removal of the background noises of a kebab shop would've been difficult but it is effective as it means that the focus is on the dialogue rather than irrelevant things. Uses simple techniques but very effectively (e.g. uses sound bridge). The low hum of mysterious and suspense building music runs in the background of the flashbacks and this is executed very well.
Cinematography: The cinematography is simple but very effective. There are no overly complex shots and any techniques used are done very smoothly and effectively.
